How to Pack Clothes for Moving (Wardrobe Boxes & Shortcuts)

Clothes are the most forgiving thing you'll pack — nothing breaks — but they're also the biggest volume in most closets. The goal is speed: here's the system that packs a full wardrobe in under an hour.

Hanging clothes: the wardrobe box

Wardrobe boxes (tall boxes with a hanging bar) are the single best packing product: lift hangers from the closet, hang them on the bar, done. A closet transfers in minutes and everything arrives unwrinkled. A typical closet needs 2–4 of them; crews bring them if you ask at booking.

Folded clothes: don't unpack the dresser

• Vacuum bags compress bulky items (coats, bedding) to a third of the size — the walk-up mover's friend

• Shoes: pairs together in small boxes, stuffed with socks — never loose in a big box under weight
• Set aside the essentials-bag outfits before sealing anything
